Dear PIA Members,
Welcome to spring?? At long last it seems to be finally showing up. It was an exceptionally windy winter here on Prudence so expect to be picking up tree branches, along with the odds and ends you thought you had secured for winter. Thanks to the continued support of our members generous donations and fundraising efforts we were able to replace the roof and the trim on the PIA building! With the new roof and trim in place we were able to activate our insurance policy once again. I am pleased to say it with stood strong through all this winter’s wind. This season we hope to raise enough to have the gutters fixed and to do repairs on the walkway and railings from Narragansett Ave down to Marcy’s store.
Next year, 2019, marks the 100th anniversary of the PIA organization and we want to hear your ideas on how we should celebrate it. The building that we know as the PIA was built much later but the organization itself was founded in 1919. We would like to mark this milestone with a big celebration but we’re having trouble deciding what to do and that’s where we need your help! If you’ve got any ideas, email us at email@example.com or join us for the annual meeting June 16th at 9 AM. We’d love to hear from you! In addition to planning for our big celebration; we need more members to join us at our annual meeting and on PIA committees to provide input for fundraising ideas, to help with hosting events or to provide behind the scenes support of our organization.
The board of directors along with many PIA members would like to thank Donna Bains for her years of volunteering work in the snack shack with the PYO kids and for preparing numerous meals. Donna has passed her apron on and will now have Friday night to play Bingo. Thank you, Donna!!
This season we are planning to carry the same weekly events as last year. Monday nights arts and crafts all ages, Tuesday & Wednesday nights PYO events, Thursday sip & stoke painting and Friday night Bingo. The Saturday Island Market has been changed to a “Pop Up Market” free for member vendors only. The market will still be held on the PIA lawn but only on certain Saturdays to be announced throughout the summer. The weekends are left open for hall rentals to help pay the bills. Anyone looking to rent the hall can contact Terri Lima or go to the rental information page to download the form. The season starts with Friday night bingo June 1, @ 8:00.
The PIA board has decided to no longer have the summer solstice in June but to instead have a cruise on the first Saturday in August. We will still have our annual meeting on the 3rd Saturday in June at 9 AM as written in our by-laws. This year’s cruise date is August 4th. We will provide a light dinner of sandwiches, chili, chips, dessert and bottled water and a DJ. Passengers may bring their own beverages and chairs to set up on deck as we cruise down the bay towards Newport. During this trip we will be holding a 50/50 raffle. We anticipate the trip to be 7:15pm to 10:15pm, leaving from Prudence Pier. Space is limited so renew your PIA memberships and sign up early. $25/member. If the weather goes bad, we will reschedule.
